Small change, big difference

As the StarKids partnership between World Vision and Jetstar turns 10, we look back at the life-changing work your small change has contributed to across the network.

Everyone’s come home from a trip with a little loose change in their pocket. Many of you may have dropped that money into a StarKids envelope on a Jetstar flight, or added a little extra when booking on It may be just a small gesture, but over the past 10 years, millions of these gestures have added up to make a huge difference.

“Through the StarKids program, and the generosity of Jetstar’s customers, we have been able to change the lives of many thousands of children across South-East Asia and Australia,” says Claire Rogers, CEO of World Vision Australia.

“Jetstar is incredibly proud to partner with World Vision through our StarKids initiative to give children in Australia and many of our destinations across Asia a brighter future,” says Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO Dean Salter. “In 10 years, our generous customers and team members have raised more than $9 million, and we’re committed to seeing this life-changing work continue.”

In destinations across the Jetstar network, there are children facing threats to their wellbeing – through poverty, conflict, violence, malnutrition, depravation and discrimination. StarKids is part of Jetstar’s commitment to giving back, and helping make the world a better place.

Meet the StarKids

StarKids donations have aided community development and emergency response projects across Asia, including in Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Your money has helped fight trafficking in Thailand, given Cambodian children access to education and aided families devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

But the money raised also goes to projects closer to home in Australia and New Zealand, such as the Young Mob Leadership Program. Mark Thorne was a participant in the program, which helps Indigenous youths develop their leadership skills and connect with their culture. Mark started off as a student, went on to become a young leader, and is now a facilitator.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the Jetstar team and customers for supporting Young Mob over the past 10 years,” Marks says. “The donations and support that we have received from Jetstar have had a big impact in my life and, I’m sure, in the lives of our young leaders who are a part of the program today.”

StarKids has helped better the lives of many young people just like Mark, and, with your ongoing assistance, we hope to help many more in the years to come.
